Inland marine for Florida contractors: tools, equipment, and the job-site theft

General liability pays other people’s injury and property. It does not replace your compressor stolen from a Homestead job site. Inland marine — a contractors equipment floater — is the policy for tools and machines that move. Miami-Dade theft is not folklore. Schedule the expensive pieces. Blanket the rest with eyes open.

Scheduled vs. blanket

High-value machines get a schedule: make, model, serial, value. Small tools can sit on a blanket with a per-item cap. Unscheduled $8,000 saws disappear from claims when the cap is $2,500.

Where the theft happens

Trucks, unlocked trailers, overnight on a lot. Some forms need locked vehicle warranties. Some exclude mysterious disappearance. We pick the form that matches how the crew actually leaves at 6 p.m.

Leased and borrowed

Rental companies want to be loss payee. Hired equipment can be an endorsement. Using a friend’s lift with no paperwork is a donation.

Quote it with the GL

Tool list, jobs radius, whether you leave equipment overnight. Start a commercial or business quote. Certificates for GCs still sit on GL. The floater is how you open Monday with tools.
