Personal auto and business use are not friends
A personal policy may tolerate occasional errands. Regular deliveries, passenger-for-hire, a W-2 driver, a vehicle titled to the LLC — those are business. After a crash on the Palmetto, the personal carrier’s first job is to ask what you were doing. “A job” is the wrong answer on that form.
We move the vehicle before the claim. Titles, VIN, radius, and whether you go to Monroe or Orlando. Radius is a rating question. Miami-to-Broward is not Miami-to-Georgia.
Hired and non-owned: the employees’ cars
Hired auto is vehicles you rent. Non-owned is vehicles you do not own — typically employees’ cars used for work. A Doral sales team that drives to pitches needs HNOA even if the company owns no cars. It sits on the GL or on a commercial auto policy depending on the market.
It does not replace the employee’s own insurance. It is the company’s layer when the company gets sued. Tell staff they still need personal policies. Put it in the handbook. Then buy HNOA.
Box trucks, GVW, and CDL-adjacent reality
Gross vehicle weight changes markets. A 10k GVW van is not a 26k truck. Drivers’ MVRs matter more than the wrap on the box. We pull driving records with permission. A DUI on a delivery driver is not a secret we can hide from a commercial auto application.
Last-mile contracts often demand $1 million combined single limit, additional insured, and sometimes motor truck cargo. The cargo policy is not the auto policy. Amazon-adjacent and restaurant delivery each have appetites. Send the contract. We quote to it.
Uninsured motorists, PIP, and Florida still being Florida
Commercial auto in Florida still lives with PIP and UM decisions. You will sign UM acceptance or rejection. Miami-Dade uninsured rates do not get nicer because the vehicle is a van. We do not let a $10,000 PIP-only structure sit under a company with payroll and a loan on the box.
Physical damage deductibles on a fleet should match how you actually repair. A $2,500 deductible on five vans is a cash-flow choice. We will show $1,000 next to it.
How to start without a 20-VIN spreadsheet panic
List vehicles, drivers, use (service, delivery, commute), and any contract limits. Start a commercial quote. An advisor builds the schedule. If you have one pickup and a dream, we still do it — smaller files get the same Palmetto honesty, just fewer pages.
